The Cordelières (St-Marcel/Lourcine)

In affiliating themselves with women’s monastic houses, women had the opportunity to be seen as generous benefactors and also to provide themselves and their female relatives a dignified environment in which they could spend their later years. Other examples of religious convents for women in Paris included Saint-Éloi, on the Île-de-la-Cité, Saint-Pierre-de-Montmartre, and Saint-Antoine-des-Champs, located just east of the Bastille.
